The Christ School Game

Here's my view through the fence of Tim's second at-bat in today's 7-2 victory... coach called on him to sac-bunt, and he did even better... laying down a perfect bunt-single!
We're now 6-3 on the year, 4-0 in our conference... the next four games are against four of the top public school teams in our area, beginning with Thursday's road game against undefeated Tuscola!

Sunday, March 28th

Tim's club team won it's first game of the year in the "Elite" category 3-2... Tim volleyed home the equalizer with 12 minutes remaining. This picture is actually of yesterday's 2-2 in Winston-Salem... another shot of him with future UNCA teammate, Kenneth Lingerfelt (both in red), and yes they are always marked this tightly...

The Gaston Christian Game

Tim first came to the plate with bases loaded and laced this single up the middle for the first 2 RBIs of our 8-5 victory!

Saturday, March 27, 2010

The Westchester Game

Pretty evident we have a ways to go... tied after three-and-a-half, we ended up dropping this one 9-3... not our best performance.Hopefully, we'll bounce back tomorrow against Gaston Christian @noon... Tim also has a club soccer game in Winston-Salem @4:00... should be just enough time for him to grab a snack and change in the car while we make the 30-minute drive between fields!

Thursday, March 25th

Another decent picture from yesterday's game... Tim reached second in four of his five at-bats in that outing and is now batting .389!He has two baseball and two soccer games this weekend... busy, busy, busy!

The Asheville School Game

Tim had his best day at the plate this afternoon, going 4-for-5 with 3 doubles and 3 RBIs! We take our four-game winning streak on the road Friday against the #1 ranked team in the state (Westchester Academy)... should be a great test of how far we have to go to beat them at the end of the season ;-)Here's Tim ready to score from third with Bailey Clark @the plate...

Tuesday, March 23rd

These six seniors decided that tomorrow's Honors Physics test was worthy of a "study party in the man cave"... so I hooked them up with some homemade pizzas and all the chocolate chip cookies they could eat... brain food, right?

Monday, March 22nd

Forgot to mention that (with Grace's help) the bacon-broccoli quiches were exceptionally delicious...

Here's all that was left from the two that I brought to last Friday's Administrators' Meeting!

Sunday, March 21st

Grace and I found a babbling brook yesterday afternoon... a great place for a relaxing chat mid-way through our time on the Mountain-to-Sea Trail...
Long-distance courtship has afforded us precious few of these types of moments, so we have to make the most of them!

She's back in Florida now... next visit: Easter Sunday!

The Asheville High Game

What a game!! The boys rallied from a 4-0 deficit, winning (in dramatic fashion) when freshman catcher Zach Roddy came to the plate with bases loaded, two outs, home team down 6-4... and laced a third-strike double to-the-gap-in-right-center, clearing the bases for a 7-6 victory! Here's a look at the stands at the start of the game:

Friday, March 19th

Another unclear picture, but the best I could get at tonight's indoor soccer game... a 9-8 overtime loss to the #1 seeded team... fun to get to see it with Grace!

The Rabun Gap Game

Not a good picture, but a comfortable-enough ride for the soccer and baseball team games in Georgia... the ladies dropped a 1-0 decision, while the men turned in a solid 5-2 performance, remaining undefeated (at 2-0) in the CAA conference!Next game: Saturday @11:00 Home v Asheville High

Carolina Day Game

We got our first win of the season 12-0 over the weakest team in our conference... Thursday's game will tell whether or not we've turned the corner. Rabun Gap is always a worthy opponent (in baseball and soccer.) Here's Tim at the plate in today's game:

These two have been staying with us since Wednesday while their parents are in Germany, although they haven't been "home" all that much... today they had an 11-hour rehearsal for "A Midsummer Night's Dream", which opens next Thursday! Tickets are still available through the school office. I posted a video behind-the-scenes look at what goes on during one of those rehearsals on my Facebook...

Thursday, March 11th

One of the blessings of teaching in a K-12 school is the chance for kids from the different levels to work together... here Mrs. Mitchell's 6th graders are hosting Mrs. Alexander's Kindergartners for a Bible lesson (in costume, no less!):

Wednesday, March 10th

Tim and I got to see our girls team (in navy) beat our public school neighbor (Owen High) 1-0 on a goal by my realtor's daughter... The video shows our opponents banging one off the post... close call!

One Year, Eleven Months

One month shy of two years since Lana went home. I went back to this day two years ago today, to see what I had posted on www.caringbridge.org /visit/lanakynast... it was a letter from Kara, with this to say about her mother:
Friends of mine that have met her always tell me that they felt LOVE radiating from mom from the minute that they met her. I heard that reiterated this morning. No matter where we were told to sit and eat, there was always a group of people circled around mom listening to stories and sharing laughter. (Kara's friend) Danielle later told me, "I would love to be as wholly giving of what I have, loving and as willing to serve as your mother and grandmother." ... Me too, Danielle!

Monday, March 8th

Did I mention Tim is playing two sports right now? This from his club soccer team's game Saturday afternoon...
The two nearest the camera in red (TK & Kenneth Lingerfelt from Asheville High) will be playing together the next four years at UNCA!ACA had its second baseball game this afternoon (a 5-2 loss to Polk Co.); Tim changed in the locker room and went straight to soccer practice!

Monday, March 8, 2010

Sunday, March 7th

Got to "chat" on FB with Kara for a half hour yesterday morning...
She's working three jobs to try to save up a little for her summer job search... lest you be tempted to think that it's all work and no play, she found time to take in a Backstreet Boys concert in Perth...
Who knew those guys were still together/touring?

First RBI of the Season

Next at bat, his first opportunity with runners-in-scoring-position (RISP); he laced one into left-center, scoring the runner from second! On the day, Tim "batted 1000" (2-for-2), with an RBI, run scored, stolen base, sac-bunt, and was hit-by-a-pitch in his last at bat... a great start individually, though not quite enough on this afternoon.
East Henderson scored four runs in the seventh to steal-away the victory 6-5... good start nonetheless.

First Hit of the Season

Next at bat, Tim led off with this single up-the-middle:

First At-Bat of the Baseball Season

Tim's first at-bat, he came up with men on first and second, no outs; coach gave him the bunt sign and he laid down a beaut...

Sunday, February 28th

It's been great having Grace with us the past couple of days... today's sermon was on the topic of "Worship"; one of the highlights of our time together (especially since our visits usually end Sunday afternoon) is the time we spend with each other's church families in Asheville and Jax...
Worshipping the One we love most with our other loved ones!
